Botany BC 2009 Program (effective June 2009)

 

Where: The spectacular Muncho Lake Park, Stone Mountain Park and area in the Northern Rockies northwest of Fort Nelson

 

When: the evening of Wednesday July 15 to @ noon Saturday July 18, 2009

 

Getting There: We will be taking a number of vans and other vehicles from Prince George leaving Tuesday July 14. There will be two potential mustering places. The first is at 1011 4th Ave prior to 9:30am, the second is at the Prince George Airport by 10:00am. If wanting a ride please try to get to Prince George prior to 10am in the morning.

 

We will overnight in Taylor BC http://www.northbceh.com:80/fort_st_john/camp.htm and be botanizing on the way. We plan to arrive at Muncho Lake on the afternoon of Wed. July 15th.

 

Wed July 15th

7 - 9pm Registration at Northern Rockies Lodge near Muncho Lake (ask at front desk for location of room.

Thurs July 16th

8am - 4pm Botanizing at provincial campground and other alluvial fans in area.

6pm - 9:30 pm Buffet dinner at lodge followed by talks (included in registration fee)

  • Vanessa Foord - Climate change in NE British Columbia
  • Sam Fuhlendorf - Pyric Herviory

9pm - ? Campfire and music and other activities at provincial campground?

 

Fri July 17th

8am - 4pm Botanizing in the alpine (Nondo Mtn)

@4:30pm - 6pm Liard River Hot Springs

7pm - ? Outdoor BBQ at Northern Rockies Lodge (included in registration fee) followed by campfire, music and other activities including Botany BC Annual General Meeting

 

Sat July 18th

8am - noon Optional trip to summit of highway for botanizing in SWB meadows and alpine south of Muncho Lake

 

noon - 6pm continue drive to Ft St John or further in vans (for people heading back to PG).

A vehicle will be heading back to Whitehorse @ 11 am arriving @ 9pm in Whitehorse

 

Sun July 19th

7am - 2pm Drive to PG to catch flights back home

Muncho Lake:

Room in Lodge or Cozy Cabin $125.00 plus 13% taxes, please add $10 plus taxes for each additional person in room. (costs effective Jan ’09 - not guaranteed so please check when you reserve your room)

Most rooms and Cabins have 2 double beds; 1 cabin: 3 double beds; 1 cabin 2 double and 1 single bed.

Rustic Cabins (older cabins) $ 95.00 plus 13% taxes, please add $10 plus taxes for each additional person in cabin.

All rustic cabins have 2 double beds; 2 cabins have shower, 2 cabins bathtub only.

RV & Tent sites are available at Northern Rockies Lodge and can be reserved - call the lodge for rates and conditions.

 

Camping is available at 3 Provincial Campgrounds. Muncho Lake campground is closest to action (30 sites), Stone Mountain Park is closest to Ft Nelson and 1.5 hr drive from Muncho (28 sites), Liard River Hotsprings is 1 hr past Muncho (53 sites, 20 reservable).

Food

You will be on your own for all meals except dinner on July 16th and 17th which are included in registration. Limited groceries are available in Muncho Lake area. Breakfast & bag lunches are available from The Bush Pilot restaurant at the Northern Rockies Lodge. Bag lunches need to be ordered the day before.
